Medical Yarn Production
Three years ago ATEX had the foresight to begin developing yarn production capabilities in-house. The ability to produce our own multi-filament medical polyester yarn makes ATEX your long-term solution for designing, engineering and manufacturing the high quality medical fabrics that you demand.
The threat of a shortage for multi-filament medical polyester yarn is very real. Don’t be caught without access to supply or with an inventory of yarn that is dating and may become unusable.
Contact ATEX and let us work with you to develop a customized program that will meet your medical textile needs.
Dear Medical Device Professional:
Are you aware of the crisis brewing in the multi-filament polyester yarn industry? Recently Olympic Fibers of Costa Rica, which manufactures the polyester yarn used in many medical textile components, announced that it is permanently closing its doors. This situation is reminiscent of the mid 1990s, when the leading polyester yarn producer at that time announced that its polyester yarns could no longer be used in many medical devices.
Many companies have decided to address this situation by stockpiling yarn with many years worth of inventory, and then later consider the alternatives. The problem with that strategy is that, over time, the spin-finish on the yarn degrades and eventually makes the yarn unusable for conversion into the finished component.
The answer to the problem of long-term medical yarn supply lies with ATEX Technologies Inc. Several years ago, ATEX had the foresight to recognize that multi-filament polyester yarns are the backbone of the medical device industry, particularly implantable products. More than three years ago, we started planning the facility, identifying the equipment and assembling the resources necessary to manufacture in the United States multi-filament polyester yarns for the implantable medical device industry. We have built the facility and equipped the operation to manufacture both comparable and improved versions of the yarns currently in use today. Our manufactured polyester yarns will be available in the 4th quarter of 2008.
As a custom manufacturer of medical textile components, ATEX considers this vertical integration of the business to be an extremely valuable asset to our customers. Our vast knowledge and experience in medical textiles well-positions ATEX to undertake the crucial program of extruding and further processing all the necessary configurations of polyester yarns that are used by the medical device industry. Having a source of polyester yarns manufactured with the exacting requirements for medical applications is something you should seriously consider. In addition, and at our expense, we are filing with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration a Master File for our multi-filament polyester yarns, comparative to the current yarns, which you will be able to reference in any of your FDA submissions.
Let ATEX become your primary supplier of quality medical polyester yarns. You can confidently be assured that ATEX will be the long-term solution for the polyester yarns with which your medical device components are fabricated. We would welcome the opportunity to review your yarn requirements and provide assistance in establishing the correct development path to qualify and validate your products.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
Martin Monestere, Jr.
